Why do Christians ask Athiests to proove that God doesn't exist?

The burden of proof will ultimately fall on who's group becomes in danger of dying out. So far we have a yearly climb in atheists population and drops in religious ones. My geuss is that christians will have to proove their god if they want their religion to stay alive.
